A year ago, a class of designers embarked on the culmination of their journey as students. As a celebratory send-off, SoFA Design Institute hosted its graduate fashion show entitled Compelling Visions, an anthology of collections that are embodied stories of the students’ creative concepts and mastery of their craft.
This year, the SoFA graduates of 2018 introduce “TOLD: The Stories Within Me”. Like each graduation show, the presentation is a kaleidoscopic parade of collections that are nothing short of a moveable feast—an experience that taps into the personal and the collective realm. The runway delivers a spectacle that offers an introspective glimpse into the mind and spirit of each designer. Evolution and transformative growth are overarching themes that resonated among the collections.
In the exclusive preview of the collections, three students—Jeremy Tan, Fred Telarma, and G Gambaloza—were given a chance to showcase key pieces of their collections to the movers and shakers of the Philippine fashion industry. Each one drew from a deep well of inspiration: blooming in the midst of adversity, finding light in the darkness, the transfiguring power of love, embodying an undaunted and adventurous attitude, mixing traditional elements with iconoclastic materials, as well as bringing a divine vision down to earth.
The exhibition will engage the audience to imagine a vision of something transcendent—varied expressions of the same compelling vision as seen before. The annual graduate show tells the visual narrative of a group of young designers emerging to become sui generis, a class of their own kind. Intrepid, confident, and visionary, the collections inspired the hope that future of Filipino design will be as unshrinking and indomitable as the promising design graduates in the face of challenges and uncertainties.
The SoFA Graduation Show 2018 will be held on April 12, 2018 at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel.
